Social project
Regular Kundalini Yoga classes and mantra sessions for people going through challenging times.
Commitment, the first step
Conscious breathing, postures, meditation, mudras and mantra can strengthen the nervous system and help build a strong sense of self.
Based on this, ARDG offers regular Kundalini Yoga classes and mantra sessions for groups in addiction recovery, elders, and adults and teenagers with mental disabilities. Teachers are accredited and unpaid; they only receive donations to cover travel expenses.
Where we work
- ATT Farol, addiction recovery centre (since 2015)
- Psychiatric Hospital of Lisbon (Júlio de Matos)
- Irmãs Hospitaleiras mental health institutions
- ARIA, Associação de Reabilitação e Integração Ajuda, in Lisbon
- LATI, Liga dos Amigos da Terceira Idade "Os Avós", in Sintra
Bringing mantra to places of need
Kirtan Travels is part of the social project and brings mantra chanting to institutions and the wider community. The name was inspired by Guru Nanak's travels.
Kirtan means praise: a time of devotional singing together. Listening or chanting helps people relax, listen to their inner voice and connect with their breath.
Mantra and mental health
The Psychiatric Hospital of Lisbon studied the impact of mantra chanting on participants in our sessions with anxiety and symptoms of depression. An article on the methodology and results was published in the Revista Portuguesa de Alcoologia in autumn 2023.
How to help
- Donate to the social project.
- Join the volunteer team as a Kundalini Yoga teacher or musician.
